My Great Grandmother Mary Tomlinson married William Gash in 1866 - their daughter Mary was my Grandmother. The Gash family information can be found by accessing the above "Gash Family" link.

I obtained their marriage certificate after finding the index numbers on FreeBMD -

I then found the family in the Census records. The 1841 Census shows my 2 x Tomlinson Great Grandparents living in Kirton Holme, Lincolnshire:

Sarah was probably a relation of Mary's.
In the 1851 Census Samuel was shown as a widow, living in Kirton Holme with several children and Ann Dawson, described as a House Servant but she may have been Samuel's wife's sister, her baptism is shown below in 1816 -
|
Samuel Tomlinson, widower, aged 47, Labourer, born Lincoln, Sutterton* |
Jabez Tomlinson, son, Un., age 15, Scholar, born Lincoln, Kirton |
Hannah Tomlinson, daught., Un., age 10, a Scholar, born Lincoln, Kirton |
James Tomlinson, son, Un., age 8, Scholar, born Lincoln, Kirton |
Mary Tomlinson, daught., age 5, born Lincoln, Kirton (My Great Grandmother) |
Ann Dawson, Servant, Un., age 34, Housekeeper, born Lincoln, Kirton |
*Shown on Ancestry.co.uk as Sullerton.
A 'Tomlinson' researcher, Philip Tomlinson had informed me that Samuel Tomlinson married Mary Dawson in 1826 and that Mary was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Dawson.
Continuing the female line of the family tree -
James Dawson = Elizabeth Gayton**
My Great Great Great Grandparents
Searching through Kirton in Holland registers, I found the baptism of Mary Dawson:
|
Baptism A.D. 1803 Nov'r 21 Mary Daughter of James & Elizabeth Dawson |
Other baptisms shown in the Kirton registers were:
| Baptisms A.D. 1799 Jan'y 4th Ann Dr of James & Elizabeth Dawson |
| Baptism A.D. 1801 Feb'y 23 Joseph Son of James & Eliz. Dawson |
| Baptism A.D. 1807 May 3 Sarah daughter of James & Elizabeth Dawson |
| Baptism 1809 July 9 Joseph Son of James & Elizabeth Dawson |
Above shows there were two children baptized by James and Elizabeth Dawson; and in 1816 there was another baptism, another daughter named Ann, the registers by this time were filled in using the official baptism forms:

** The film of Kirton in Holland registers at first shows Marriages, Baptisms and Deaths in chronological order and then after 1751 there were just baptisms and burials in datal order. The marriages then appeared in the film separately after the baptism/burial entries for 1812. This was a dedicated Marriage Register beginning 1754. Amongst them was the marriage of my 3 x Great Grandparents, James Dawson and Elizabeth Gayton:
| Page 36 ( The Year 1797 ) | |

There was only one other entry with a similar surname - in 1805, another marriage for a "Luke 'Gaydon', Bachelor of Pelham's Lands in extra Parochial adjoining the Parish of Fosdyke & Ann Peart, Spinster of this Parish". I could find no other record within the readable parts of this film. I searched the IGI for a baptism for an Elizabeth Gayton in Lincolnshire but drew a blank - however there were some from Norfolk.

My thanks to two Tomlinson researchers for contacting me. Jabez is Philip Tomlinson's Great Grandfather. He married Charlotte Elizabeth Gash in 1867; Jabez died on 23 June 1914 in Kirton Holme. Their son George Tomlinson died in 1950 in Friskney, Lincs. Son, Mark Tomlinson drowned in quicksand and is commemorated on a memorial at Kirton Skeldyke - this tragedy occurred on 25 August 1902. Please go to this link for the information on Mark's death.
Jabez Tomlinson laid the foundation stone at the old Primitive Methodist Chapel in Kirton Holme and his name appears on the stone. The other Tomlinson researcher, Jennifer Frost, tells me her Great Grandmother Charlotte Tomlinson died on 21 July 1920, age 78 years. Jennifer very kindly sent me copies of photographs of Charlotte and Jabez and they are shown on Photo Gallery 1.
I found the death in the BMD lists of a Mary Tomlinson, registered at Boston in 1848 and this was my 2 x Great Grandmother, Mary, age 44, and shown to be present at her death was her sister, Ann:
