Most of the pictures in this photo gallery are from Mary Emma Templeton, nee Simms's collection of photographs which have been forwarded from Canada by my nephew, David Braithwaite. Additional ones - two photographs of Charlotte and Jabez Tomlinson, which Jennifer Frost (nee Covill) has kindly sent me and two photographs from Mike Moutrie of his Great Grandfather William W Gash and one of a book written about W Gash & Sons Ltd, the former Nottinghamshire bus company.

William and Mary Gash (nee Tomlinson)

This is a wonderful picture! William and Mary were married in Kirton In Holland on 22 May 1866. I submitted this photograph for picture dating and the outcome was that it was probably taken as a wedding photograph.

Charlotte Tomlinson (nee Gash) - 1842-1920

Charlotte was my Great Grandfather William Gash's sister.

Jabez Tomlinson was my Great Grandmother Mary Gash's brother.

Two brothers married two sisters.

John William and Hannah Dixon

Hannah Gash eldest daughter of William and Mary married John William Dixon (from Sibsey, Lincolnshire), 24 Dec 1895.  Mary Emma Simms wrote on the back of the picture "Your Great Uncle Jack and Aunt Anna, they lived at the bungalow at the farm at Kilnhurst where your Uncle Bill and Aunt Beatie lived."

5 Lucy Simms (nee Gash) William and Mary's second child, christened on 17 May 1868 in Kirton In Holland, Lincolnshire. Mother of Mary Emma.
6 William and Emma Gash nee Ward Son of William and Mary. This picture was taken in Newark. William and Mary and their family moved to Syerston in Nottinghamshire from Yorkshire, to take over the Croft Farm from his brothers David and Jim who had decided to emigrate to Canada.
7 Mary Hickling, Lucy and Arthur Simms My Grandmother, Mary Hickling, nee Gash with her sister Lucy and brother in law Arthur John Charles Simms.

James Gash

Great Uncle Jim, born in Tattersall; Jim was 4 at the time of the 1881 Cenus. In the 1891 Census Jim was 13 and working as a Colliery Labourer. By the 1901 Census he was in the Coldstream Guards, living in barracks in London aged 22 where this picture was taken. Son of William and Mary Gash.
9 This is Uncle Jim in his civvies.
10 Great Uncle Jim emigrated to Canada - this picture with my Mother, Irene Braithwaite nee Hickling, was taken on one of his visits. The house in the background was the back of the house of Mary Hickling (nee Gash) and her husband Willie - 52 Kilnhurst Road, Rawmarsh. We lived next door at No 50.
11 Ruth Gash Great Aunt Ruth - Auntie Ruth was a twin - Rachel and Ruth were William and Mary's daughters born at Thornton le Fen, Lincolnshire in 1880.  Rachel married Wright Henry English at Coningsby; Ruth never married.

12 Gertrude Simms A lovely picture of Auntie Gertie at 18 years of age.
13 Auntie Gertie and Uncle Tom  Auntie Gertie with her Canadian Soldier husband in 1916 - most probably their wedding picture as they are displaying their rings.
14 Mary Emma Simms Sweet 16. (Mary Emma and Gertrude Simms were 2 of the daughters of Arthur and Lucy Simms nee Gash.)
15 Mary Emma Simms and Ernest Templeton Aunt Mary Emma married Ernest Templeton in Sheffield on 29th January 1917.  This picture was taken on their honeymoon. Their wedding photo and wedding certificate information can be found here
16 Mary Emma Simms This picture was also taken in 1917.
17 This picture was sent to her husband, Ernest, from France in World War I. It was Mary Emma who supplied most of these wonderful old pictures.
18 Eddie and George Gash Sons of William and Emma Gash.  William and Emma Gash moved from Kilnhurst to Syerston in Nottinghamshire in the early 1900s.
19 Amy Gash, Ernest and Emma Templeton My Great Aunt Amy with Uncle Ernest and Aunt Emma - writing on the back of the photo states that it was taken at York.
20 William Copley Great Aunt Amy married William Copley and eventually moved to Ambleside, in the Lake District. I think this picture is taken outside their cottage.
21 Herbert Simms William and Mary Gash's daughter, Emma married Thomas Herbert Simms and their son Herbert was born in West Melton before they emigrated to Canada.  Their son Herbert, came to England in WWII
22 Grandma Hickling, Herbert Simms, Mother and me - taken at the bottom of our unkept garden!
23 Tom Cheers Tom Cheers, husband of Edith Gash (Samuel and Clara Gash's daughter). Tom came from Canada to England in WW2.
24 Aunt Edith (formerley Gash) and Uncle Tom Cheers Edith was born in Rawmarsh, near Rotherham, Yorkshire the daughter of Samuel and Clara Gash. The family emigrated to Canada around 1912.
